Dr. Jackson and other members of Wisconsin’s Equity & Inclusion Laboratory travelled to Boulder, Colorado in November 2017 to facilitate a workshop for faculty and geoscientists affiliated with the Geoscience Diversity Experiential Simulations Project.
The project, abbreviated as GeoDES (link: geodes.wmcild.org), was funded by the National Science Foundation. The three-day workshop from November 13-15, 2017, aimed to help participants think critically about race, gender and sexual identity, as well as develop leadership techniques and skills. The workshop included bystander intervention training by utilizing virtual reality technology.
Dr. Jackson, director of the Wei LAB, serves as Co-Principal Investigator for the GeoDES Project. The GeoDES project is focused on increasing diversity in geoscience, as well as aiding in the retention and promotion of geoscientists through training and bystander intervention programs and the use of virtual reality simulations.
